1. PRESBYTERIAN BOYS(PRESEC) LEGON
Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School (PRESEC) is a secondary boarding school for boys. It is located in Legon, Accra, Ghana. It was founded in 1938, under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church of the Gold Coast.[4] The Basel missionary-theologian, Nicholas Timothy Clerk (1862–1961), who served as the first Synod Clerk of the Presbyterian Church of the Gold Coast from 1918 to 1932, used his tenure to advocate for the establishment of the secondary school.[4][5] The school has ties with its sister schools, Aburi Girls' Senior High School and Krobo Girls Senior High School.
2. MFANTSIPIM SCHOOL
Mfantsipim is an all-boys boarding secondary school in Cape Coast, Ghana,[1][2] established by the Methodist Church in 1876 to foster intellectual, moral, and spiritual growth on the then Gold Coast. Its founding name was Wesleyan High School and the first headmaster was James Picot, a French scholar, who was only 18 years old on his appointment.
Mfantsipim is nicknamed "The School" because it gave birth to other prominent schools such as Prempeh College.
3. Wesley High School for Girls
This SHS was set up by Mrs. Harriet Wrigley in 1836. She was married to the second Methodist Missionary to go to Gold Coast. When the school first opened, there were only 25 girls, and her goal was to teach them the basics of catechism and housekeeping. At the time, classes were held in a hall near Victoria Park called Manse. The school has grown over the years to become one of the best in Ghana. It has helped students do well on the WAEC, keeping up the tradition of doing well.
4. St. Augustine’s College
This school is in Cape Coast, and it is a school for boys only. It was started in 1930, and its first goal was to train teachers. Since then, a Senior Secondary School has been built there. At the moment, 1500 boys between the ages of 12 and 19 attend the school. It also has 60 full-time teachers, 6 part-time teachers, and close to 80 people who don’t teach. There is a headmaster and two assistants who are in charge of running the school.
5. Opoku Ware School, Kumasi
This is another school on this list for boys only. There are probably about 1300 students at the school right now. Students can also stay at the school and use the on-site housing and boarding facilities. People who go to Opoku Ware School are between 14 and 18 years old. This school is known as one of the most competitive in Ghana, especially now that education is getting better. In the last few years, the school has turned out some of the smartest people in Ghana, including some well-known people.. In the last West African Examination, the school had an 88.23% average success rate.
6. St James Seminary Senior High
St James performed exceptionally well in the last examination. With an average performance of 98.8%, it proved to be the best school in the country.
7. Holy Child Senior High School
Also known as Angel’s Hill, Holy Child is also one of the best schools in Ghana, considering the students’ performance in the last five years. Located in Cape Coast in the Central Region, the educational institution had an 87.53% average success rate in the previous examination.

It has some of the best educational facilities in the country. So, the 86.31% average success rate recorded is not surprising.

The all-male academic institution in Cape Coast that started at Amissano, a village near Elmina, in 1930, also made it to the list of the best educational institutions in the country. Based on the WAEC rating, it has an 83.06% average success rate.
